Being A Friend Of God?

We know the beloved hymn, “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.” In reality we should ask ourselves are we friends to Jesus? What have you done over the summer to show Jesus that you love Him, care for Him, and truly are a friend to Him. We are comforted to know that Jesus calls us His friends. The question to consider, “What does it mean to be a friend?” Write down some of your answers before you continue.

Well I suspect you have given the above some thought. A friend is a person you can Confide In. Count On.

A person willing to do more for you, without keeping track of what you have done for them. Attached to another by affection or esteem.

Now answer the following: “What does it mean to be a friend of God?

Obedience – Jesus said if you love me, you will keep my commands.

Doing His Will – Not my will be done, THY WILL BE DONE!

Trusting In Him – Trust and Obey, there is no other way. To be happy in Jesus-Trust & Obey!
Communication – Daily time in prayer and meditation on your friendship to Jesus.

Biblical References – Friendship Of God.
• 2 Chronicles 20:7
• James 2:21-24
• Isaiah 41:8-10

Who in the Bible is called, “A Friend Of God?”
• Proverbs 17:17; 18:24
• Matthew  11:16-19
• Luke 5:20

God as our friend has given us a free will to love Him or not. To be a friend of God is always to do something for Him, for He has done so much for us. Tell me friend; ARE YOU A FRIEND OF GOD?

The above was our recent devotional for our Men’s Group at St. Andrew Lutheran. The study was led by Mr. Don Snyder. If you are looking for a home church to help you grow as a friend of God, visit us at St. Andrew!
